The law firm of Bell & Graham was first established in Matamata by Basil Bell, who was admitted to the Bar in 1935.

Basil ran a sole practice from 1936, until he took on a partner Jack O’Brien in 1954 and the name of the firm was changed to Bell & O’Brien.

The firm employed Ted Graham in 1959, and in 1965 Ted became a partner in the firm, and the firm became known as Bell & Graham.
